Is it haram to wash clothes in a washing machine?
Bismilahi Rehmani Rahim (In the name of Allah the Entirely Gracious and Genuine Merciful). Unfortunately, Some of Ulamas or Mufti (Clerics, or Religious scholars) made Hardships in Islam that’s why the most common person which are affiliate with religious follows blindly them without knowing any logics or True knowledge. We’re in Twentieth first century, the age of modern science and we’ve been seen day after day the sumptuous wonders of Science.
It’s true and I’m not showing any opposition to agree that Islamic Sharia doesn’t care or worry about science. But you’ve to accept it, Islam is a religion of ease.
Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA): The Prophet Alahis Salam (Peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Religion is very easy and whoever overburdens himself in his religion will not be able to continue in that way. So you should not be extremists, but try to be near to perfection and receive the good tidings that you will be rewarded; and gain strength by worshiping in the mornings, the nights.” (Sahih Bukhari 39)
Elaborate form (See Fath-ul-Bari, Page 102, Vol 1).
If Islam is a religion of ease why we would take hardships or Struggling life intentionally. It’s true Almighty Allah can decreed ordeals or hardships in your life but no doubt Almighty Allah doesn’t test any soul of body beyond its courage or capacity (Qur’an Al-Baqarah 286). And Undoubtedly, With Hardships, there will be ease (Qur’an Ash-Sharh Verse 5–6) .
Now, According to the question; Is it haram to wash clothes in washing machine.
Firstly, Allah loves those who purifies themselves (Qur’an At-Taubah 108). Allah says “Truly, Allah loves those who turn to Him constantly and He loves those who keep themselves pure and clean” (Qur’an Al-Baqarah 222)
Besides your body your dressing clothes, should be clean and for Praying Salah (Namaz) it’s obligatory that three things should must be clean (Your Body, Your Clothes and The Place where you performing Salah).
Now, The question that arises, can we wash clothes in an electric machine. Most of this type questions apparently arises in Asian Muslim countries. I’ve discussed earlier that our Science nature renovates in splendid manner and many of our hard work became easier with the help of Science and changes into smart work.
Narrated Aisha (RA): I used to wash the traces of Janaba (semen) from the clothes of the Prophet Muhammad (Alhis Salam) and he used to go for prayers while traces of water were still on it (water spots were still visible). (Sahih Bukhari 229) .
Before the invention of Automatic Washing machines, women were used their hands to clean Clothes and For purifying clothes, water must be flowing through it. Now, it’s obvious machine do the same even you found better washing qualities. Actually we’re hold our minds in misconception that Machine boxes accumulated dirty water of clothes even during washing, but it is not right, machines have preferable motor cycles and it deposited all dirtiness of clothes and after pouring Clean water on it, it throwing dirtiest part through drainage system. Basically Washing machine removes impurities and because of flowing water with pressurized in it clothes getting clean even addition of other clothes.
Actually, I’ve mentioned Hadith early, what I actually meant to say that After coitus or sexual intercourse, first you’ve to wash effective spot of clothes where you found semen (sperm) and then it’s fair enough to use automatic machines. This is also true for Night fall. (My opinion) Fatwa:
According to a fatwa, or religious ruling, by the Permanent Committee of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, it is permissible to wash ritually impure clothes with other clothes in the washing machine, as the washing removes the ritual impurity and dirt of the unclean clothes.
There is no harm as long as washing is thought to remove ritual impurity.
So, Washing machines is one of the miracle of Mechanical Science and obviously it is very useful. It also reduces the struggling effort of women and now they can utilize their time with their families.
