WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF OUR RECITATION OF THE QUR’AN?
MESSAGE OF THE QUR’AN!
INDEED, THIS QUR’AN GUIDES TO THAT WHICH IS MOST SUITABLE AND GIVES GOOD tidings TO THE BELIEVERS WHO DO RIGHTEOUS DEEDS THAT THEY WILL HAVE A GREAT REWARD. (QUR’AN; AL-ISRA’: 9)
AND IF YOUR LORD HAD WILLED, HE COULD HAVE MADE MANKIND ONE COMMUNITY; BUT THEY WILL NOT CEASE TO DIFFER.
EXCEPT, WHOM YOUR LORD HAS GIVEN MERCY AND FOR THAT HE CREATED THEM. BUT THE WORD OF YOUR LORD IS TO BE FULFILLED THAT, “I WILL SURELY FILL HELL WITH JINN AND MEN ALL TOGETHER. (QUR’AN; HUD: 118-119)
RECITE THE QURAN WITH MEASURED (RHYTHMIC) RECITATION (QU’RAN; AL-MUZZAMIL: 04)
TARTEEL is the Arabic word for hymnody. The term is commonly translated in reference to the Qur’an as recitation, “in proper order” and with “no haste”.
The Arabic word translated as ‘slow, measured rhythmic tones’ is TARTEEL.
There is also an Arabic term what we called as TAJWID which is also used to define the rules explaining proper recitation of the Qur’an in the manner that GABRIEL (A.S) revealed it to MUHAMMAD (PBUH).
TAJWID is a set of rules for the correct pronunciation of the letters with all their qualities and applying the various traditional methods of recitation (QIRA’AT).
According to Dr. Bilal Philips
The QUR’AN should not become an Islamic pop, where we just listen to the QUR’AN and admire it. We understand what QUR’AN is. What ALLAH (SWT) is saying? The QUR’AN is the message, the goal is to understand the message and be able to apply it. We lose out in what the message is supposed to be. This is what happens. We put lot of efforts for our children to memorize the QUR’AN but to understand what the QUR’AN is saying; we do nothing.
According to me [SAHIL (Alias; SWE)]
As we know that the QUR’AN was revealed from ALLAH (SWT) to MUHAMMAD (PBUH) through the Angel GABRIEL (A.S) gradually over a period of approximately 23 years, when MUHAMMAD (PBUH) was 40 years old.
QUR’AN, the last word of ALLAH (SWT), is the biggest gift from our Lord for the humanity and also the most crucial requirement for it to be successful. It not lays down the path that leads humanity towards success but also delineates the course that ends up in eternal disaster.
This fact necessitates that every single human being must be not only familiar with the holy QUR’AN but also be able to understand its message which is obvious, when we know the meaning of holy QUR’AN. So recite the QUR’AN with meaning which is sufficient for understanding the message of the QUR’AN and after that apply that message in your daily life.
Sometimes, I disappointed when I came to know that a boy or a girl completes or memorizes the holy QUR’AN but without knowing what it wants to say. For me, those who memorize QUR’AN without knowing meaning is same as one who is thirsty and wants a drops of water for drinking but he have a wide sea (saline water) in front of him and he is not able to finish his thirsty.
HOW SAHABAS [Companions of prophet MUHAMMAD (PBUH)] recites QUR’AN and How they used it in their everyday life:-
Abdullah Ibn Umar said, “We used to read Qur’an ten verses at a time and we try to apply them. (MUSNAD_AHMAD)
Hazrat Abdullah bin Amar narrates from the holy PROPHET (PBUH) that ALLAH’S Apostle (PBUH) said: IT will be told to a Hafiz of the Holy Qur’an in the day of resurrection that they keep reciting the holy Qur’an and keep ascending the stations of jannah (paradise). Recite with Tarteel (slowly, following the rules of recitation) the way you recited in the world, because your final station (of jannah) will be where, you were when you recite the last verse of the holy Qur’an. (MUSNAD-AHMAD)
Narrated Ibn Abbas that the messenger of Allah (PBUH); For whomever Allah wants good, He gives him understanding in the religion.
