Among those deeds which brought down the fall of Roman Empire was a celebration of a filthy day. On 13 to 15 February, the Romans celebrated the feast of Lupercalia. The men sacrificed a goat and a dog, then whipped women with the hides of the animals they had just slain.
The Roman romantics “were drunk. They were naked,” says Noel Lenski, a historian at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Young women would actually line up for the men to hit them, Lenski says. They believed this would make them fertile.
Today obscenity has changed its form. Women are hit by flirtatious flowery words of Valentine day cards. If the Roman Empire lost is valour and power so will the other super powers of today and super powers in waiting , tomorrow , if they succumb to immodest festivals.
Girl friends, wives, mistress will get flooded with cards of false appreciations. Flattery will be justified globally. Valentine day is a big business, and a huge industry of developing the art of fooling females through display of artificial love. Millions of husbands would be sending love cards to their wives declaring their unending love, but then quietly take out their hidden girlfriends or mistresses to their favorite restaurants. Many rich young men would be courting different girls, during breakfast, lunch and dinner and vowing a monopolized love to each of them.
According to the market research firm IBIS World, Valentine’s Day sales reached $17.6 billion last year; this year’s sales are expected to total $18.6 billion. The question is what do they sell? If Saint Valentine had been alive today he would be earning billions of Dollars out of the copyright that people use his name to sell cards, parties, dance and music tickets. In 1913, Hallmark Cards of Kansas City, Mo., began mass producing valentines. February has not been the same since.
