These Tech companies Refuse To Help Trump Assemble Muslim Registry

American President-elect Donald Trump said last November that he “would certainly implement” a database system tracking Muslims in the United States. During the campaign, Trump had also called for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the country, though he later backed out due to “extreme vetting” this past summer.

Mr Trump had a meeting on Wednesday at Trump Tower with Silicon Valley executives, including those from Facebook and Apple. It isn’t clear whether the Muslim registry discussion was a part of this meeting or not, Buzzfeed have asked the companies whether they would help build or provide data for a Muslim registry nevertheless. An Apple spokesperson said: “We think people should be treated the same no matter how they worship, what they look like, who they love. We haven’t been asked and we would oppose such an effort.”

“In relation to the hypothetical of whether we would ever help build a ‘Muslim registry’ – we haven’t been asked, of course we wouldn’t do this and we are glad – from all that we’ve read – that the proposal doesn’t seem to be on the table,” a spokesperson for Google told.

Same goes with other companies like Uber, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft & many more tech companies. More than 1,300 employees from major tech companies signed a pledge – neveragain.tech earlier this week to never help build a Muslim registry.

“We are choosing to stand in solidarity with Muslim Americans, immigrants, and all people whose lives and livelihoods are threatened by the incoming administration’s proposed data collection policies,” the open letter reads. “We refuse to build a database of people based on their Constitutionally-protected religious beliefs. We refuse to facilitate mass deportations of people the government believes to be undesirable.”

This makes us think- Humanity still exists above religion, race, and nationality.
