There are a dozen thoughts that cross our minds each passing minute- good ones and not so good ones. As much as we try to control them, our mind pays no heed and continues to wander. How we wish at times that there was a switch that we could possibly turn off to attain serenity.
In the midst of trying to conquer my introspection, I once came across this beautiful hadith mentioned in Sahih Muslim (127) and Sahih Bukhari (5269) and I quote Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) “Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, will forgive my ummah for whatever crosses their minds so long as they do not act upon it or speak of it.”
Reading this took me into a state of deeper contemplation and I started to read further when I came across another beautiful hadith.
“Whoever thinks of doing a good deed then does not do it, Allah will write it down as one complete good deed. If he thinks of doing a good deed and then does it, Allah [may He be glorified and exalted] will write it down between ten and seven hundred fold, or many more. If he thinks of doing a bad deed then he does not do it, Allah will write it down as one complete good deed, and if he thinks of it then does it, Allah will write it down as one bad deed” – Sahih Bukhaari (6491) and Sahih Muslim (131)
What you think is eventually what you end up doing. Thoughts turn into actions, actions into habits, habits cultivate character and Islam says:
‘The best among you are those who have the best manners and character’ – Sahih Bukhaari
How beautiful is the deen of Allah. SubhaanAllah! We are also rewarded for thinking beautifully.
